Friday Mixtape Volume 29

Friday Mixtape Volume 29It's going to be a hot weekend! Pool plans, Guster and Ray LaMontagne tonight, and I've got a mixtape full of new stuff! Starting with the acoustic rendition of Bullets from Editors. Stereogum (still hacked) gave us new Ben Kweller this week, and I really like it. Razorlight did an amazing set on Zane Lowe's show, and I've included the sublime America, from their new album. I've been hearing Cord a lot lately, and haven't made up my mind on them yet, but Winter has helped them grow on me. Another Fueled by Ramen act, The Academy Is… (are you realy supposed to include the elipsis?) slows down for a minute, and the Fratellis stop creeping up stairs, and sing Henrietta. The View are on fire, or at least that's what their website says. The single is hot, and so are the rest of the tracks on their myspace. Atlanta locals Jil Station droped their debut album this week- Vanguard sounds a lot like Moz here. The Working Title have had their single The Mary Getaway out for a hell of a long time, and finally we get fresh stuff from them this week, though I'm not convinced. Some reviewer compared it to Radiohead this week- does everything compare to Radiohead these days? I sincerely hope not. Basement Jaxx are back, and Hush Boy is just classic Jaxx. The much-hyped MSTRKRFT album dropped this week, and Easy Love always gets my foot-tapping groove going. I heard Aaron LaCrate's mix of spank Rock's Blow on Mark Ronson a couple weeks ago, and I'm really into his stuff now (esp. the Oxi Cottontail bit). Fergie goes solo with London Bridge this week, which very distinctly reminds me of some Gwen Stefani, but with better production. Also, I really dug her in Poseidon. The Roots are back. NYC's Domino (that amazing voice on Mark Ronson's version of No One Knows), gets tropical, ending SFFM volume 29.

Artwork this week by flickr user babsteve, whos pages are filled with brilliant photos from all around the globe. His ability to capture people is truly amazing, and not shown in the cover image- so go check him out here.
