I've spent some time this week listening to the top 50 finalists in the MtvU BestMusicOnCampus.com contest site. While I've left my student days far, far behind me, the MtvU site still offers a glimpse into the rising future of American music. There are lots of genres represented among the remaining 50 contestants vying for a $1.5 million record deal with Epic- rock, pop, folk, hip-hop….all there. Plus, each band or artist's page features an MP3 player with their songs that, if you're creative with your browser cahce, can result in a hard drive full of new muisc. Thanks MtvU!
I've gone through and picked out a mixtape full of bands that managed to rise above the rest in this field of 50, and packed them together in a bonus mixtape for you this weekend (the regularly scheduled Friday Mixtape is still coming…just later). Should any of you decide that you happen to realy like one of these, or for that matter - any of the bands in the competition- I'm sure they'd appreciate your vote for them in the contest. You have to register with the site, but it could mean $1.5 million for the band- I'm sure thye might split that with you…
