So, there’s a new look to SquirrelFood today. This change was not by choice though- the Wordpress update earlier this week broke my theme, and while trying to “hack” a workaround to some things, I broke it further. Now, I’m stuck with a half-assed theme that I’m not crazy about, but I’ll try to make work. Hopefully, I’ll find some time this weekend to either modfiy the these to my liking, or find one I do like. Either way, I hope all this rearrangement isn’t too comfusing. I know a lot of readers are reading via RSS anyway, and the theme is irrelevant. If anyone knows of a great theme that would suite SF, please let me know.

Happy 4th of July everyone (and to our international visitors: happy Friday the 4th of July)! I love it when national holidays work themselves out to be long weekends- a mid-week 4th just isn’t the same. I will hopefully find some sun this weekend, stay away from all that junk food normally associated with summer holidays, and take things pretty chill. While I’m doing all that, I might also just listen to this week’s mixtape. Yep, I listen to my own mixes. Anyway, that’s all I’ve got this week… enjoy the mix.

Week 26- that’s half way through the year for those of you keeping track. It’s also the traditional week for my “half-way through the year, best so far” edition of the Friday Mixtape. Kind of a no-brainer, right? It was, until I collected all my favorite tracks from the past 25 mixtapes and had 48 to pick from. I managed to elimnate some of them, but still have a MEGA-Mixtape for you this week. If there’s anything that you missed, it’s probably here this week.

Welcome to the first Friday Mixtape of summer! Rather, welcome to summer- today being the first day of the season, even though it feels long overdue. Things in the ATL have been heated up for a few weeks now, and some good, upbeat music is necessary for those windows-down evening drives, or a day by the pools. So, I’ve tried to keep this week’s mix a little more up-tempo… tried. So it’s not exactly a summer-theme or anything, but just a small change of pace from what I’ve been including on the mixtapes lately.

Alrighty, time for this week’s mix. I have to admit the difficulty I had this week in finding tracks that I thought worthy of posting- that is, until my friend in Houston gave me a link to her Pandora bookmarks. With that helper, I had a complete mixtape. So, everyone thank Mel for saving the Friday Mixtape this week. I’m looking forward to Summerfest this weekend, but not to the mid-90’s temperatures that will have to be endured. At least last year, we had a little cloud cover. I know I haven’t blogged much at all this week, but I promise to try harder next week. It’s just been kinda busy in my world lately. That doesn’t mean I didn’t collect a slew of new music fo rthe mixtape though. I listened to a lot of great stuff from around the ‘net this week, and a couple of new albums/leaks too. I won’t go through them all this week, as I’m pressed for time even now, but it’s a fairly longs mixtape this week because I couldn’t bear to cut out some of the extra tracks. Anyway, enjoy.

Alrighty- I’ve been feeling a bit refreshed this week after an extended weekend beach getaway to the Gulf Coast last week (except for yesterday, and I’ve only got myself to blame for that). But the shortened week also left me a little bit behind in my musical quest for new schtuff. Thanks to Aubriane and 5andman for your comments, I only hope I can stand up to such high standards- which is why I chose not to include any Alanis Morissette on this week’s mixtape. What I do have is a blend of new, slighty less than new, and all-around awesome tracks. Adele’s album 19 has been around for a bit, but the new single was produced by SF fav Mark Ronson, and I happened to hear it playing twice this week, so I’m still calling it new. Foxboro Hot Tubs (A.K.A. Green Day in disguise) aren’t new either, but they’ve expanded this little side project to include 6 new tracks, and a tour. Local H have been around since before SF was nuts, and they’ve got new stuff out as of last week. Oh, and if you missed the last post, Matthew Perryman Jones is playing Smith’s Olde Bar tonight with Evan McHugh- so, if you’re an Atlantan, come out and say hello. As usual, download/listen/love/comment?

Okay, fast and dirty this week. New music as always, but not so many new bands. Comments from two weeks ago were correct, I fell for a fake Death Cab file. Song wasn’t half bad though, was it? Anyway, new DCFC this week, and more Weezer. I haven’t really been a fan of Weezer’s stuff, but Troublemaker really rocks. Wallis Bird is new to me, but I dig her stuff already. Not sure what to think of the new Captain single yet- they were one of my favorites from 2006, but this one hasn’t caught on with me yet. That’s all I have to say really- oh, wait: the new Ratatat is pretty mellow and cool, right?
