I love it when I find great music in my inbox- and this track popped in last Friday after I’d put together the mixtape already. Since the album “O Ye Devastator” dropped today, I thought I’d give it a little plug here.
AG Silver
I love it when there’s great music in my inbox! This week, I got an email from a very independent band from Michigan: AG Silver, which I’m excited about. They’ve just self-released a new EP called Love Keeps No Score, that is charged with energy and lead by Jon Ornee’s powerful, soaring vocals. The band’s sound is a blend of rock, pop, and soul, with a strong leaning towards the rock edge. The songs are melodic and stick with you- an hour after listening for the first time, I was tapping out the rhythm to the title track on my desk (I’m a drummer- table drumming is a fact of life to me).
Videos on the band’s website show an impressive live show, no doubt tuned by a long tour – and documented on their myspace (slightly edited by me):
3 – different vehicles we’ve owned this year (silver streak, moby dick and now our beloved Rev!)
29 – number of states we visited on tour in 2008
1 – number of vehicles we totaled in head on collisions w/ semi-trucks (not kidding, Craig slept through the whole thing… no he wasn’t driving:-)
5 – new tracks on our EP that came out this Fall! (download em today on iTunes or www.agsilver.com/webstore)
10 – temperature in degrees the day of our show in Anchorage, Alaska
30 – age in days of the pizza we found when cleaning out the RV stove at the end of the tour
15,000 – amount of people in Africa who will have a year’s worth of clean water as a result of the generosity of our fans (www.agsilver.com/cleanwater and www.bloodwatermission.org)
264 – amount, in dollars, to fill up our RV in September
99 – amount, in dollars, to fill up our RV at the end of November
24 – number of people at our first show in Oregon in 2007
360 – number of people at our second show in Oregon in 2008
22- number of video blogs we posted this fall (watch em all at www.agsilver.blip.tv)
54 – approximate number of Frappuccinos that Aaron opened and drank
0 – approximate number of Frappuccinos that Aaron actually finished
Those are some good numbers!
The band was kind enough to let me post one of the tracks for you here on SquirrelFood, but I encourage you to visit AG Silver on myspace and take a listen to the rest.
Mugison In Pictures
Featured in this week’s mixtape, Mugison has some really cool press photos by several very talented photographers on his website.

Amy Kuney
Last month, Duke of Straw posted on The Late Greats about Amy Kuney in one of his regular segments “Actors Who Sing & Singers Who Act”. I read it, listened to her, liked what I heard, and even remembered her scenes in Gilemore Girls- then negelected to post about her. When she popped up in a couple other places this week, I was reminded that she’s pretty awesome and I should post on her. So, here is Awy Kuney:
Born in Oklahoma (OK!), her family moved to Guatemala when she was a teenager. While there, she and some friends were kidnapped by rebels (who eventually released them). After this experience, Amy thrust herself into writing performing. Her YouTube video covering Damien Rice’s Blower’s Daughter got her a person invite from the artist to perform with him in Iceland this July.
Before its cancellation, Amy appeared as a troubador in a couple episodes of Gilmore Girls, and her music has been used on another CW show, One Tree Hill.
Foxboro Hot Tubs is Green Day?

Foxoboro Hot Tubs are rumored to be the alter-egos of radio-friendly-punk rockers Green Day. The band’s website has a 6-song EP streaming and available to download for free (no signups, even). The overall sound fo the EP is infused with 60′s era rock sounds, but still sounds an awful lot like Green Day. It’s all free, so go download the whole thing at www.foxborohottubs.com, or listen at the Myspace site.
