Wordpress Issues

Wordpress issued a new upgrade this week and like a fool, I went ahead and installed it before checking to see if the current template would work. It doesn’t, and the new version seems buggier than the last. So, please bear with me while I try to sort out SquirrelFood.

Another One for LiLo and SamRo

Another track for LiLo and SamRo, and this one’s so much better than Katy Perry:

Little Jackie - Guys Like When Girls Kiss

Kanye Sux

Kanye played Bonaroo…woo. But, he didn’t get started at 2:30am as planned. Instead, he started two hours late because of the complex stage setup he’s got. While the crowd waited (and drank lots of caffeine), they also booed him, and left some nice tags about. See more pix at AnimalNewYork.com.

Video: The BPA - Toe Jam

This vid looks like some campy 70’s porn, but gets creative with the use of those ‘little black boxes’:

Friday Mixtape Volume 223

Friday Mixtape Volume 223Whew, it’s gotten really warm in Atlanta this week, thus the icy cool cubes that grace the top of the blog this week. I’m looking forward to Summerfest this weekend, but not to the mid-90’s temperatures that will have to be endured. At least last year, we had a little cloud cover. I’m can’t think of anything else right now, so as always: download, enjoy, comment if you like.

Tracklisting:
Anthem In - Down
Bitter:Sweet - The Bomb
Cage The Elephant - Aint No Rest For The Wicked
David Jordan - Sun Goes Down
Joshua James - FM Radio
Primal Scream - Can’t Go Back
The Dig - Good Luck And Games
The Do - Stay (Just A Little Bit More)
The Heys - Pressure
The New York Fund - The Guns of Camden Town

Download it here while you can!

This week’s image comes from Darren Hester.

Summerfest This Weekend

VaHi Summerfest

This weekend is one of my favorite weekends of the summer- the Virginia Highland Summerfest! The musical lineup for this year’s Summerfest include the current contestants in Dave FM’s Searcharoo bands, and last year’s winner (and SF favs) The Beggar’s Guild. Also on the schedule are ATLocals Bishop Don and Sonia Leigh. Headlining acts are Matt Costa, Shawn Mullins, Michelle Malone, and Sister Hazel.

Six-Word Summaries of SXSW

This is just cool- the kind of thing that, when sent to you first thing on what could be an ugly Friday, makes the rest of the day look better. Paul Ford writes for TheMorningNews.org, and recently covered SXSW for the blog from his desk in New York by listening to all 763 tracks in the 2008 SXSW torrent, and writing a review of each track- using just six words each!

Sometimes, his review was right in line with my thoughts. Like his description of Brooke Waggoner’s Hush If You Must: “Big piano pop sound, with strings.” Sometimes, I thought he was way off, like his review of the Hush Sound’s Wine Red: “Commercial directors, we await your call.” I freakin’ loved that song. In at least one case, his review could have been taken litterally. Of Nouvellas’ track Satisfied, he wrote: “Crunchier guitar and this’d be great.”. Listen to the difference between the SXSW track and the version on the Nouvellas’ myspace- it’s as if they read the review and remixed the track.

Read all of the six-word reviews on themorningnews.org.

Some of my favorite diatribes:

That guy singing backup? Kill him. (Castanets, This Is The Early Game)

Song mauled to death by violins. (Devon Williams, A Truce)

Yes, please. Never, ever stop dying. (Die! Die! Die!, Sideways Here We Come)

This is bullshit, five minutes long. (Guinea Worms, Box of Records)

Like a dog fucking a blender. (Kevin Shields, Muscle Hair)

Reverb is the sixth band member. (Secret Shine, Lost Memory)
