Three tracks from Matthew Sweet’s new album, Sunshine Lies, are streaming from his website and myspace page. The album is due out August 26th, and marks his first solo album since 2004. The album was recorded, mixed and produced by Sweet at his studios in LA.
Wordpress issued a new upgrade this week and like a fool, I went ahead and installed it before checking to see if the current template would work. It doesn’t, and the new version seems buggier than the last. So, please bear with me while I try to sort out SquirrelFood.
Kanye played Bonaroo…woo. But, he didn’t get started at 2:30am as planned. Instead, he started two hours late because of the complex stage setup he’s got. While the crowd waited (and drank lots of caffeine), they also booed him, and left some nice tags about. See more pix at AnimalNewYork.com.
Whew, it’s gotten really warm in Atlanta this week, thus the icy cool cubes that grace the top of the blog this week. I’m looking forward to Summerfest this weekend, but not to the mid-90’s temperatures that will have to be endured. At least last year, we had a little cloud cover. I’m can’t think of anything else right now, so as always: download, enjoy, comment if you like.
This weekend is one of my favorite weekends of the summer- the Virginia Highland Summerfest! The musical lineup for this year’s Summerfest include the current contestants in Dave FM’s Searcharoo bands, and last year’s winner (and SF favs) The Beggar’s Guild. Also on the schedule are ATLocals Bishop Don and Sonia Leigh. Headlining acts are Matt Costa, Shawn Mullins, Michelle Malone, and Sister Hazel.
This is just cool- the kind of thing that, when sent to you first thing on what could be an ugly Friday, makes the rest of the day look better. Paul Ford writes for TheMorningNews.org, and recently covered SXSW for the blog from his desk in New York by listening to all 763 tracks in the 2008 SXSW torrent, and writing a review of each track- using just six words each!
Sometimes, his review was right in line with my thoughts. Like his description of Brooke Waggoner’s Hush If You Must: “Big piano pop sound, with strings.” Sometimes, I thought he was way off, like his review of the Hush Sound’s Wine Red: “Commercial directors, we await your call.” I freakin’ loved that song. In at least one case, his review could have been taken litterally. Of Nouvellas’ track Satisfied, he wrote: “Crunchier guitar and this’d be great.”. Listen to the difference between the SXSW track and the version on the Nouvellas’ myspace- it’s as if they read the review and remixed the track.
