This week's mixtape start out rockin' with new tracks from Audioslave and The Killers. I don't care if Stereogum doesn't like the new Audioslave- I think it's great (they like Tapes 'N Tapes). James Morrison and Jamie Lidell give a bit of soul to the mix, then Outkast blends their own style with classic blues. Heather of I Am Fuel, You Are Friends posted the next track this week, and it grew on me. You get The Strokes, throw them in a room with Eddie Vedder and Josh Homme, and tell them to play Marvin Gaye…it's a good thing! Then, I changed gears, and jumped into the Ro Rlvd. remix of Lupe Fiasco's hit, and chased with fresh Pharrell Williams. I Took a skip across the pond for new Plan B, then back to NYC for Daniel Merriweather and Saigon (is Turtle really his manager?) mixed up with some Mark Ronson (thanks Fluxblog!). Rhymefest blends in a little rock with Citizen Cope. I just started listening to Gym Class Heros, and I already like it a lot. Larua's sister's band- which I'm not sure about yet, but after listening to her read Laura's diaries all year, I had to give it a chance. Finally, a pleasent surprise from a myspace friend's page- Colbie Caillat has a nice blend of acoustic folk/soul, even if I can't figure out how to pronounce her last name. Anyway, there you have it- the Friday Mixtape, volume 28!
Drums are cool. I played the drums. Akash_k likes drums too, and I liked his close-up of a snare drum, and that's why it's the cover photo this week.

It seems like Rhymefest’s album Blue Collar has been around for a long time, but officially, it was released this week on Allido Records (co-owned by Mark Ronson, who also produced on the album). Rhymefest has been sitting pretty since getting a Grammy for his co-writing credit of Kanye West’s Jesus Walks. The talented rapper is backed by some of the best producers in the game (Just Blaze, No ID, Cool and Dre and Mark Ronson). Rhymefest is streaming 8 album tracks on his myspace.

Sorry 'bout the poor quality, but this is going up as soon as it's done streaming- if a better copy turns up later, I'll replace it. Aired on Zane Lowe today, Original Fire has lots of cowbell and a guitar solo that sounds to me like a gremlin laughing. From the upcoming Audioslave album Revelations produced by Brendan O'Brien, Tom Morello talked to Zane for a bit about the new album, due out September 4.

Out this week (in brief, because I'm lazy):

Guillemots - Through the Window Pane I've been listening to Made Up Love Song #43 since last summer, and I'm still not tired of it. This alone is a testament to the creative effort put into the music made by leader Fyfe Dangerfield and his band. Mostly pretty mellow (but beautiful), the previously released tracks are still the most radio-friendly.

Muse - Black Holes And Revelations The first single off Muse's new album Black Holes and Revelations, Supermassiveblackhole, is another heavy-hitting track with soaring vocals rendered in falsetto by frontman Matt Bellamy. I don't think it quite lives up Absolution, but it's still a great album. Leah of Confessions Of A Music Addict has a great review of it on her site.

Thom Yorke - The Eraser If you can't wait for the new Radiohead album to be finished and released, go buy the new Thom Yorke. I'm not a fan of either, but every other blog on the planet is raving, so I figured I'd post it, if only get it in the search engines…right?

I know, I'm late getting the Friday Mixtape posted- it's been a short week, and I've had lots to catch up on. Anyway, this mix this week is about as eclectic as they get- from the new Muse to Jurassic 5 teaming up with the Dave Matthews Band, it's all over the place. Two repeat artists: Paolo Nutini- whose single Last Request sports a cool video and gets him lots of comparison points to James Blunt, and Jamie T. The later should get more attention than he does for his incredible mix of singer-songwriter talents and loop-based production. In fact, it was after chasing down Jamie T's first single Slavador that I first discovered SF favorite (and summer super-star) Lily Allen. So it's not surprising that he's to be found on the mixtape again. The Waifs are currently getting a lot of attention on my iPod, they've got a great balance in the songs I've heard. And finally, songs with my name in the title (even if I think it's a girl-Jamie they're singing about) are awesome- so we've got a cut off of Hellogoodbye's self-titled EP (which could probably have been a bit shorter than 8 1/2 minutes).
Flickr.com user AliceInW supplies the photo this week- and with such great artistic vision and composition on his Flickr page, will no doubt be a source in the future.

So I was on vacation, and wasn't even near the internet, so I missed Lily Allen's appearance on the Jo Whiley show Monday. She chatted with Whiley for a bit about her sucess, her family, Robbie Williams and being stung by bees. She also performed Smile acoustic, and a cover of The Kooks' Naive.
You can still listen to the performance on the BBC's website, and check out more pictures.

So I'm not even close to being caught up after vacation, but I jsut heard the new Justin Timberlake song on the radio Sexy-Back. The New York Times (via Stereogum.com) gives it 3 to 1 odds ot be the summer hit of the year. I'd rather hear Crazy again. Anyway, thanks to Scott Mills for deploying it early- sorry 'bout the really crappy capture.
