One commentor sums this one up perfectly: "Wow. This is what happens when Drama Nerds marry.".
I wonder if the bride knows her new husband is gay?

I'm tired. It's been a long week, and I'm just not so into writing up any long description of this mish-mosh of a mixtape. Instead, I'll just say that all the bands are top-notch, and deserve some listenin' to. Maybe after I get home later, I'll change this- sorry for the lack of enthusiasm.
This week's image comes from my friend Melissa, who recently took a trip to Salt Lake City where she took this shot of a lion's head on the side of a building. I was going to make it very blue (ALL lions should be blue), but instead opted for just a little tint. You should check out her originals on her flickr site.

Just watched this very interesting MTV News segment on the DJ Drama/DJ Cannon arrests last week here in Atlanta, wanted to share: via Nah Right

I found this video for Example's (remember the Lily Allen remix/comeback track Vile from the summer?) latest single, You Can't Rap on YouTube last night, and had to share it. It's comical, it namechecks all kinds of pop personalities- and Jose Mourinho, and it's a single take, story-within-a-story thingy.

Manchester band James plans to reunite for a UK tour early this year. Seems James might get Laid again…sorry for the pun. NME has more.

Snow Patrol drummer Jonny Quinn will have to sit out the rest of the band's current tour after breaking his arm while snowboarding. Graham Hopkins (Boss Volenti, Halite) will fill in while Quinn recovers.

Welcome to another Friday! This week's mixtape is a bit more random than most- it's been slim pickin's this week. I managed to pull together a few tracks for ya though, including new stuf from Brandi Carlile, Kanye West, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, and that Travis track from yesterday's post. I also dug up some interesting tidbits, in the form of a Rosie Thomas and Sufjan Stevens duet of R.E.M.'s The One I Love, Pearl Jam's cover of The Who's Love Reign O'er Me, which is getting buz for the upcoming Adam Sandler movie that uses the track in its trailer. Also, a someone reminded me of California singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat recently, so I checked up on the gorgeous girl, and it seems she's getting a whole lot of attention on Myspace- currently ranked the number 2 most popular unsigned artist. So I put another of her tracks in the mixtape (she first appeared on Volume 28 in July). Mew, Locksley and The View also on this mix, and a remix/re-hack of Phil Collins' In The Air Tonight by DMX. Hope you enjoy something on it.
Also, thanks to the new file hosting account I've arranged, there's a bonus packed into the mixtape's zip file…just because I like my new bandwidth allowance!
This week's pic is of two matches, one burning, the other still unstruck. It comes from flickr user jmpznz (I've got no idea what that means). He's from Buenos Aires.

I was listening to Chris Martin on BBC Radio 1 today, as he was sitting in for Zane Lowe. He started out well enough, but it quickly went downhill- continually making self depricating comments, and playing random jingles on a keyboord. The show ended on a high note, however, with this little nugget from what I can only assume is the highly anticipated next album from Travis. There's some chatter over the start, but it's a great song, worth listening to!

Ah, Friday, and I'm late posting another mixtape. The commute home this afternoon took over an hour from my new office location, and when I finally got home, all I wanted to do was catch up on the new episodes of Shameless. But now that's out of the way, and I've got a batch of new music for ya!
This week's mix includes stuff from Athens, Georgia's own The Whigs, who are getting a lot of attention nationally these days. I saw them not too long ago, and can understand all of it. Also, a band I heard early material from a while ago, but that are just now catching on with me: The Alternate Routes. iGif introduced me to Arizona this week, and I really liked this track Splintering. They're up for an artist of the month award in a NY magazine, read about it on Nathaniel's blog, and vote for them if you like it.
Gary Lightbody (of Snow Patrol) hosted the Zane Lowe show on BBC Radio 1 one evening this week (as did Mike Skinner, The Automatic, Kelly Osbourne, and others), and played this new track from Idlewild, which I absolutely loved, and searched for hours last night to put on here. Lightbody's also a Simpson's fan it turns out. Also on Radio 1 this week, Amy Winehouse performed on Jo Whiley, and did this great cover of the Zuton's Valerie. I'm really into Winehouse right now, after havin gbeen introduced to her soulful singing on Mark Ronson's East Village Radio show, Authentic Shit (which I'm listening to right now). Ronson also produced the track with his signature sound.
Other new stuff from an eclectic group of artists including BNL, Kate Mann, The Ataris, and Cooper Temple Clause- but I'm not going to get into each one, just let you download the mixtape and give them all a listen. If you like 'em, leave me a comment to let me know what you liked, and of course: support the artists.
This week's image was created by flickr.com user ExtraNoise. A couple of musicians in a classic car driving out of what looks to be a Ferrari repair shop (see original) paused for the photographer to snap mulitple exposures of them to later render in HDR. After processing, it takes on a Rockwellian feel, if you ignore the brand-spankin' new Ferrari in the BG.
