Friday Mixtape Volume 111
jamie on March 16th, 2007
Welcome to St. Patrick's Day weekend! I always love St. Patrick's Day, even though I'm the furthest thing from Irish (I'm Hawiian if you'r einterested). This year is shaping up to be a good one, with live music, head-shaving, lots of beer, and it looks like the weather is going to place nice as well. It all starts tonight at 8 in Buckhead with Novah at Fado (see below). In the spirit of the holiday, I've done up an all-Irish mixtape (almost) for this Friday. Ash are getting ready to release their new album- the first after the departure of Charlotte Heatherly last year. Tenatively called TOTI, I've only heard this one track from it, but I felt the need to also include my favorite Ash track Girl From Mars, just because. Other great Irish artists like Meteor Award winners Damien Dempsey, Fionn Regan, and Paddy Casey are all here. Who's missing? Well, the Pogues are…I thought that was too obvious, which brings me to the exception- The Tossers. They're not Irish- they're from Chicago, but I saw them play the Metro for St. Patrick's Day in 2001, and they freakin' kick ass. They've got a new album coming out on March 20th, and are playing the Roseland Ballroom in New York tomorrow night with…The Pogues. SO, it sorta all ties together. Enjoy the double-shot from them, and have a great St. Paddy's!
The cover art today comes from flickr user yugoq (no idea how you say that). It's actually a Polaroid, which I thought was pretty cool.

Natasha Bedingfield's new single I Wanna Have Your Babies really hasn't caught on with me at all, but she was on Jo Whiley's show this morning covering Snow Patrol. It sounds a bit forced to me, but still pretty good. What do you think? Anyone?
