Natasha Bedingfield's new single I Wanna Have Your Babies really hasn't caught on with me at all, but she was on Jo Whiley's show this morning covering Snow Patrol. It sounds a bit forced to me, but still pretty good. What do you think? Anyone?
Kicking off the St. Patrick's Day weekend tonight with Novah under the tent at Fado. Novah's Matt Vetter does their posters, and they always blow me away. Check out Novah's myspace for more!
For the past couple of years, I've had some pretty shaggy, long hair. The plan was always to donate the hair to cancer charity Lock of Love, but timing worked out such that I'll be shaving it all off this weekend at the St. Baldrick's event at Fado Irish Pub in Buckhead! I'm excited about it (and St. Patrick's in general). It'll be a great day at the pub, and a good cause as well. For your enjoyment, here's a few random 'hair' songs for today:
So, if you look back through the posts here on SquirrelFood.net (or just search for "Mixtape"), you'll see that the first mixtape I posted was on this week one year ago today. Woo-hoo! Looking back at that first mixtape, it was a great mix: Kooks, Lily Allen, Hot Chip, Orson, The Feeling, Streets, Jamie T, Mark Ronson…sheesh. Listening to the mix on my commute home this evening, I'm pretty sure this is a great mix. I've got new BMRC, Tori Amos, Wilco and Joss Stone all in the mix.
Photo this week by jurveston…it's algea growing rampant on the ocean, or something like that- visit his flickr page to find out more (I just thought it looked cool).

I tried to play The Sims once, but I'm not a very patient person, and every time I'd let my character run on fast forward, he'd end up starving- so I gave up. I did find the synthesized language fo the caraters kinda cool though. Turns out, they call it Simlish, and to kick off the latest release of the game, they've done a contest with the karaoke-idol site singshot and SF fav Lily Allen to see who does the best version of Lily's Smile. Personaly, I think her own dub of the song in Simlish is teriffic, and can only imagine the hillarium in the studio while trying to record the simlish version.
Last weekend, I was in DC, where it was freezing cold and I saw real snow for the first time in a long while. This week, I'm back in the ATL, where it feels like springtime. I'm headed down to the 10 High just a bit to catch Athens, GA standouts The Modern Skirts. Check out Pasadena.
Kanye gives this week's mixtape a one-two punch in the form of his FOB remix, which got lots of blogosphere coverage this week, and the Rick Ruben-produced Better Than I've Ever Been, and I'm really liking the RJD2 album - Have Mercy is a favorite among the track on that one. I already posted the Arctic Monkey's new track this week, but included in the mix anyway. So far, I don't think it's anything new, or terrific even- but it's good. New Wilco tracks are all over the tinerwebs this week, including here. Okay, I'm heading out the door now…enjoy your weekends everyone!
Waterfall picture of the Bethesda Metro station (where I was last Friday, only there was no water) by Trent Roche.
On my trip last weekend, I began reading a new collection of Hans Christan Andersen fairy tales (folklore & fairy tales are another hobby of mine). I had picked up the volume just before my mother sent me a book of the author's paper cuttings (another of my various hobbies). I've also noticed that Iv'e not posted much at all recently, so here's a little collection, tying together my various hobbies:
