AOL Music published a list of 77 songs from movies they deemed to be 'unforgettable' today. While I don't agree with some of their top ten choices (Chad Kroeger, in front of Berlin… seriously?), it's an entertaining read. As an added bonus, there's a photo countdown of 24 movie bands they wish were real.
Season 1 of Nip/Tuck was amazing, and I got hooked right away, but last season lost me a bit. Now, McNamara/Troy is heading to Cali, and they'll have a whole new world of sin to work with on in Hollywood. The preview clip from FX has a pretty wicked cover of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game by Los Angeles duo Giant Drag. The clip doesn't show anything but the back of the Hollywood sign, but it's here for your viewing pleasure anyway. Track follows.
Fast and dirty this week…sorry, I'm off today, and dealing with a sick computer. Anyway, new stuff all over this week. New old stuff from The Game… and Augustana because I wanted to hear it. Have a great weekend.
This just popped up on Wooster Collective, and I had to repost it- Max Tyrie and some friends put together and entry for Modest Mouse's Missed The Boat Video Contest by filming over 4,000 pages of…well, I'll just let him explain:
"Myself and a couple have friends have entered the above into the Modest Mouse video competition. Using green screen footage provided by the band we cut a simple music video. We then degraded the images and printed out each frame sequentially. (all 4133 of them) We then nailed each "shot" of 50-100 posters to various structures and posts. Then using a digital SLR camera with a long exposure we frame by frame shot each poster. Oh, and theres a little video projection (again, frame by frame on the SLR) just to mix it up. There is no compositing, no shortcuts, just lots of blood, sweat and tears, and a huge Kinkos bill!"…. Max
Another week gone, another mixtape. One week from now, I'll be finished with my last day at my current job, and taking the holiday weekend to relax by the pool before starting fresh at a new job. Woo. Back to this week though…
New Spoon tracks are all over the net now, and Rhthm & Soul is my favorite of them. The album is amazing. This new Go! Team track was on every other music blog this week, so I thought I'd better keep up- so it's in the mixtape. It hasn't caught on with me quite as quickly as their older stuff, but maybe that'll change after a weekend of listening to it. Kanye and Lupe are putting new stuff out again, and I'm diggin' Lupe's stuff a hell of a lot more than Kayne. I think Kanye should give up trying to rap, and stick to producing. The mix was a little light, so I put in the Streets remix of The Twang I posted earlier this week. Besides, I can't get enough of it. Beastie Boys have a new album coming out soon- all instrumentals this time. A few tracks are out, including this. Give me In 3's any day. The Attorneys are making some great powerpop, which I included…on a whim. I've heard the Kubichek! track on the radio over the past couple of months, but hadn't included them yet, so I figured this was as good a time as any, and I'm not sorry. And finally, Biffy Clyro's new stuff is freakin' awesome! I've been diggin' on the singles for a while, and currently diggin' on this athem for a bit. So, basically, that's it. Enjoy.
Jon Rawlinson has a great collection of photos on his famously-named Flickr.com site. I picked "Drip Drop" because I like the way the water droplet re-focuses the backgroud in perfect miniature.
