Summertime in Atlanta means the return of Unplugged in the Park at Park Tavern every Sunday evening, and so far, they've had a great lineup of artists performing. Last weekend, I got to see my old favorites the Freddy Jones Band (2nd time this summer). This weekend, local favorites (and friends) Novah are performing with Matt Wertz. Next weekend, Willy Mason and Ben Kweller will be playing- another show not-to-be-missed. SO, if you're in the Atlanta area, and looking for somethign to do on a Sunday, I highly recommend you check out Park Tavern- I'll probably be there! Oh, and here's this week's Mixtape…
Simple, green. A droplet of water shines on a long green leaf. Noah Bulgaria took the photo that graces SF this week.
Tying music and The Simpsons together has never been hard: they always include great cameos by popular (or not) bands. In honor of the new movie, Blender.com published an article on the best of these cameos over the series' run.
I'm refering to the new video for Kanye's Can't Tell Me Nothin' starring Zach Galifianakis. He's the guy that lip synced the words in Fiona Apple's Not About Love video. Anyhow, this was apparently shot on his farm in NC, and is so bizzarre, I had to laugh when I saw it. Tell me what you think…
It's been another long, busy week here in ATL, where it's rained almost every day. I'm busy working at a new job, and have been excited to see orders coming in from our new webstore, but have had little time to listen to new stuff. I have been listening to Common a lot though, and love everything I've heard from him lately, and a highlight is this track with Lily. Stars new album is also incredible, and has been spinning at the office while I code. It's been a long time since I added a mashup to the mixtape, but this White Stripes/Led Zep mash by France's DJ Zebra actually impressed me. Anyway, time to cut lose and enjoy the weekend…
Another frequent photo source here at Squirrelfood is Houston's MJ Ecker, an old friend of mine who takes really great photos, expecially when she's travelling. This week's shot appeared on her blog this week, and immediately impressed me..

An interesting article on The Independant today (via indieBlogHeaven), connecting Lily Allen and Mark Ronson in their own words:
…He's a nice guy. He can be very funny sometimes, but is also a kind person, and I get on very well with his girlfriend. He is very relaxing to be around. Maybe that's because he's grown up in a rock'n'roll environment, so isn't fazed by what's happened to me. I find that refreshing, because in the past year I've found myself in situations where people surrounding me are a bit obsessed. In a nice way, of course, but that kind of thing does make me feel freaked out. Mark, though, is one of the few people who is always just a calming guy to be around.
First there was Littlest Things, then Oh My God. Read the full article.
Mercury Music Prize shortlist nominations are out this week. The obvious frontrunners are Artic Monkeys, but my favorites would have to be The View and Jamie T. If I had to pick just one to take the prize, I'd go with Jamie T.
Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future Amy Winehouse - Back To Black Maps - We Can Create The View - Hats Off To The Buskers Jamie T - Panic Prevention Dizzee Rascal - Maths and English Bat For Lashes - Fur And Gold Young Knives - Voices of Animals And Men Fionn Regan - The End Of History New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom Basquiat Strings - Basquiat Strings
This week was slim pickin’s for me- there just wasn’t a lot that really grabbed me and said “put this on the mixtape!”. What I did hear and liked, is here. As always, if you hear somethign you dig, or think I will dig, send me a link via the contact thingy on the right side of the page there.
I keep going back to Steve Jurvetson’s images for covers- again and again, when I search for CC material on Flickr.com for the Mixtape photo, jurvetson’s images appear in the ‘most interesting’ category. This week, I’m using another of his intersting macro shots for the cover- see it and more on his flickr page.
Just heard the new Jose Gonzalez track on Zane Lowe… and grabbed a rip of it. Gone is the deliberate fingerpicking of Crosses, I'm sure this song is more impressive live. I've listened to it half a dozen times already, and it just hasn't clicked yet. Anyone that reads this knows I love JG, but this is the first single?
A story on AOL today caught my eye: apparently, among the new works added to Webster's Dictionary this year is the tired term "crunk". Even worse is the definition:
Crunk: A style of Southern rap music featuring repetitive chants and rapid dance rhythms
Repetitive chants, rapid dance rhythms? Really? That's the best they could do to define it? DVR, speed dating, and ginormous also are to be added.
