Mercury Music Prize shortlist nominations are out this week. The obvious frontrunners are Artic Monkeys, but my favorites would have to be The View and Jamie T. If I had to pick just one to take the prize, I'd go with Jamie T.
Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future
Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
Maps - We Can Create
The View - Hats Off To The Buskers
Jamie T - Panic Prevention
Dizzee Rascal - Maths and English
Bat For Lashes - Fur And Gold
Young Knives - Voices of Animals And Men
Fionn Regan - The End Of History
New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom
Basquiat Strings - Basquiat Strings

This week was slim pickin’s for me- there just wasn’t a lot that really grabbed me and said “put this on the mixtape!”. What I did hear and liked, is here. As always, if you hear somethign you dig, or think I will dig, send me a link via the contact thingy on the right side of the page there.
I keep going back to Steve Jurvetson’s images for covers- again and again, when I search for CC material on Flickr.com for the Mixtape photo, jurvetson’s images appear in the ‘most interesting’ category. This week, I’m using another of his intersting macro shots for the cover- see it and more on his flickr page.
Download it here while you can!

Just heard the new Jose Gonzalez track on Zane Lowe… and grabbed a rip of it. Gone is the deliberate fingerpicking of Crosses, I'm sure this song is more impressive live. I've listened to it half a dozen times already, and it just hasn't clicked yet. Anyone that reads this knows I love JG, but this is the first single?
Jose Gonzalez - Down The Line

A story on AOL today caught my eye: apparently, among the new works added to Webster's Dictionary this year is the tired term "crunk". Even worse is the definition:
Crunk: A style of Southern rap music featuring repetitive chants and rapid dance rhythms
Repetitive chants, rapid dance rhythms? Really? That's the best they could do to define it? DVR, speed dating, and ginormous also are to be added.
