Another week gone… and another year as well. I started my 33rd year on this planet on Monday with a blast over the weekend, thanks to my friends. This weekend is a long holiday for those of us in the United States, and while an obscene number of people will try to travel this weekend, I'm staying close to home. Anyway, on to the music. I move from pretty mellow stuff to more energetic on volume 135- starting with Keren Ann and the new Band of Horses. Both tracks have been stuck in my head in alternating sequence. Jacksonville's Black Kids were new to me this week, but have found their way onto my Moto Q (which I use for music more than my iPod). I had to include some new Kanye, even if Chris Martin is on the track, and added the new Lupe Fiasco that Nah Right posted yesterday, because it's anything but 'dumbed down'. It's just sick! To round out this mixtape, I threw in some enw stuff by old-schoolers Springsteen and Counting Crows, just because. Have a great weekend everyone!
Thomas Hawk no longer actively posts photos to Flickr, but he's still got some great ones there- where I got today's image from. He's got a new photo site called Zooomr.
I'm kind of catching up on stuff that I've been listening to lately, but not included on mixtapes because of disorganization and/or lack of time. So this is the mixtape where I catch up on Eisley, Razorlight, Athlete and others. I found som ecool new stuff online this week as well, so it makes for a nice mix. Anyway, That's all I have to say about this week's mixtape. You'll have to download and listen to it to tell me what you think.
Breaking from my usual routine of picking from the flickr.com images for the covar art, I came across this stunning photo of the earth from NASA's Earth Observatory, and thought I'd go with that this week, as my tax dollars paid for it.
Leslie Feist, apparently fed up with her own website, posted an image of a handwritten letter to fans, telling them to head to her myspace page until her camp could "…breathe new life into the robot.". Click the image for full-size.
I came across this video on one of the non-music blogs I read regularly (In addition to the 200+ blogs in my newsfeed list, I also read a lot of art blogs, blogs on geek stuff, and blogs on SEO and eCommerce… if you wanted to know). Wooster Collective is "a celebration of street art", and does regular posts on street sign adaptations, alterations, etc. This fell into that category, I think, and I really liked the clip, which was done for a Snickers ad overseas. Anyway, how does this belong on SF? The music is a track called Let's Roll by a Kuwaiti group called Army of One.
This has been around for a minute or two, but I can't get the song out of my head as of lately, plus example makes great vids, so check out his latest:
Speaking of great Example vids, this one was recorded in reverse, which must have been a hell of a lot of strange phonetics to memorize:
After my last soccer match of the summer season last night, I came home to crash on the couch for a bit before bed, and watched Damages on FX. I've recently gotten hooked by the show, with it's stellar cast, big characters, and slow reveal. Last night, however, I noticed the opening credits, and the song that was playing over them. A little search, and I find it's a lengthy title: When I Am Through With You by The VLA. Anyway, if you check out their website, especialy the "archives", you can find some more good tracks.
Sheesh, it is HOTTTT here in ATL! I mean, I just went out to grab a bite for lunch, and the air smelled like it was burning (might be the chemical plant by the office though). Anyway, it's so hot that I just haven't felt like doing much after soccer matched this week, so I've gone a left the blog blank between mixtapes. Shame on me. I swear, I'll do better next week, just you wait and see…
Bokeh is a photographic term referring to distorted out-of-focus areas in an image produced by a camera lens. Different lens bokeh produces different aesthetic qualities in out-of-focus backgrounds, which are often used to reduce distractions and emphasize the primary subject.
Upon a friend's suggestion I searched Flickr for "Bokeh", and found a number of cool photos to use for SFFM covers. This one, by Atsushi Osawa, caught my eye today.
