Atlantis Music Festival. Lots o' bands playing at ten venues. Wristbands or laminate passes get you into all venues, but you have to drive around between them, probably missing half the shows you want to see. Last year, the ole 585 was hosting. This year, 585 is no more. But I'll be around the various venues all weekend, and will report back to you all on Monday (well, maybe Tuesday). On the mixtape this weekend, you'll find a few friends and favourites from the festival, some killer new Foos, Thurston Moore, and four new bands (to me). Download it, burn it, listen on repeat, and have a great weekend!
innoxiuss' most popular photo of some train tracks sliding into the ocean in Cuba, is my pick for this week's cover. I found it on FLickr.com searching for Creative Commons photos tagged "Atlantis"- for the festival thingy…get it?
Atlanta's own music Altantis Music Festival kicked off last night with performances at 10 Atlanta music venues. I went out after soccer practice last night to catch The Bridges at Smith's. Every time I see these girls (and guy), I am more impressed. Before catching The Bridges upstairs, I was able to catch a bit of The Kin. Originally from Australia, and currently residing in New York, they are helmed by brothers Isaac and Thorry Koren. They played last night with a percusionist who was able to bring a lot of sound out of a few hand drums and cymbals, adding to the multi-layered sound the brothers create with acoustic guitar and keys. Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/thekin. Lots of other acts playing all weekend long at the festival- check ou tthe lineup at AtlantisMusic.com.
I haven't felt like doing much of anything this week…including blogging. My week since the last mixtape has been absolutely craptastic, and so the blog has suffered. I did manage to pull together a mixtape though- New stuff from Ghostland Observatory and Sia, Atlanta locals Tentonic, and my friends Novah- who will be playing tonight at Vinyl. I am actually travelling to the long-awaited wedding of a couple of old friends. I'll be Back Home Again In Indiana for the weekend.
I return to a great source of photos this week from Mayr's flickr.com collection with another game. The last time I used her photo, it was baseball. This time, it's dominoes.
My name is Jamie, and I'm just trying to share my love of great new music. Files are for sampling purposes only, and intended only to promote music. If you are the copyright owner of a sound file and would like me to take it down, let me know and I'll gladly comply.
