Friday Mixtape Volume 142

Friday Mixtape Volume 142This weekend marks a fairly sad occasion for me- after being my second home for the past couple of years, Fado in Buckhead is closing, albeit temporarily, on Saturday evening. The old building will be demolished, and there’s a temporary location down the street for the next few months while the new building is erected (it’s already framed in steel, just around the corner)- but still, my local is closing down after this weekend. SO, if you’re in Atlanta, come by Fado this weekend and have a pint with me!

OH, and I’ve got music for you… I didn’t forget! Mel suggested Johnossi, and I’m convinced I’ve been living in a box, because this duo is great, and I’m just now hearing of them? Bad Jamie! Another track from Dan Wison’s impressive new album Free Life, and a new Ryan Adams track that’s been around a while, but appears on his new EP, Follow the Lights. Other big ones this week, for the sake of keyword-packing: The Killer’s new single with Lou Reed, Tranquilize and Sigur Ros’ Hljomalind. You see, if I mention the big names, and people searching for them come to SF from a search engine, maybe they’ll also find Noah and the Whale and Siberian and Meredith Bragg and Maritime. At least, that’s the plan.

Philipp Daun offers some colorful (empty) bottles for today’s penultimate final drinking day at Fado.

Amy Winehouse Spends Then Night In Norwegian Jail

Amy Winehouse and her husband were arrested yesterday in Norway on charges of drug possesion (weed) reports The Guardian. Norway’s relatively lax stance on means that after spending the night in jail,
and paying a fine of just over $700, the pair (and an unnamed third man) are free.

Welcome to the NEW SquirrelFood.net!

So, it’s not really all that new- all the old posts are here (hopefully), but it’s now run by Wordpress, in an effort to expand the capabilities of the blog, and help get things into a more uniform shape. I’m still playing with themes and writing plugins, so there’ll be more changes coming, but at least it’s back up and running now!

Friday Mixtape Volume 141

Friday Mixtape Volume 141It finally feels like fall around here now- and I’m paying the price of colder weather: a cold. It hasn’t slowed me down too much though, and I’ve managed to pull together a really eclectic mixtape for you all this week. It’s all in there: Metal, Pop, Rap, Indie… whatever.

Thomas Haverkamp’s sharp-edged detail of some fall leaves seemed to fit the current mood here, so it’s this week’s photo. Check out more of this guy’s stuff on Flickr.
