Mike Doughty’s new disc Golden Delicious is out today, and to promote it he’s released a series of acoustic video performances to certain other blogs. This was on My Old Kentucky Blog today:
Stereogum had one posted yesterday, and Paste Magazine will be posting one tomorrow, Seattlest.com the day after, and SFStation.com on Friday.
Okay, this week’s Friday Mixtape is a little short, and I haven’t even listened to all the tracks on it yet. In fact, I can’t really listen to much of anything right now, as I’ve got the killer cold from hell that simply won’t quit. My sinuses and ears are all out of whack, and it’s only because I’m all napped-out that I even got around to doing the mixtape tonight. So, download, listen, and let me know how off my ears really are in the comments. I’m going back to bed now.
I don’t know if it’s bcause I’ve been sick all week, or that I’m just getting soft in my old age, but I somehow (mostly) got over my bitter disposition on this manufactured holiday and put together a mid-week mix of LOVE. The only qualifiers for this mix was that the song or artists had “love” in the name, and that the song was good. So, it’s not all kisses and roses here- the whole thing starts off with the remix of A Fine Frenzy’s farewell tune Almost Lover, includes Atlanta’s Novah making some Love In Space, and The Love Willows singing another love-long-gone track with Brighter Discontent. Of course, there are tracks here with the expected sentiment: Ryan Adams’ My Love For You Is Real, Stephanie’s ID and Tristan Prettyman singing about the subject so foreign to this blogger, and the whole sorted affair is capped off with Rosie Thomas’ heartbreakingly simple version of REM’s The One I Love.
Oh, and did I mention that this little love-fest also marks the 500th post here at SquirrelFood.net? It only took like three years, but I’ve made it to 500! Well, at least that’s what Wordpress tells me- I didn’t go back and count them all.
