Week 26- that’s half way through the year for those of you keeping track. It’s also the traditional week for my “half-way through the year, best so far” edition of the Friday Mixtape. Kind of a no-brainer, right? It was, until I collected all my favorite tracks from the past 25 mixtapes and had 48 to pick from. I managed to elimnate some of them, but still have a MEGA-Mixtape for you this week. If there’s anything that you missed, it’s probably here this week.
Oh, and the numbers in front of each track- that’s the Friday Mixtape volume it came from.
Anything missing? Is there a track from one of this year’s mixtapes (volumes 201-225) that is a favorite of yours, but not on my mix here? Let me know. Anything at all that I’ve missed? Let me know- the email address is to your right!
Yep, that’s a quote. In an interview, when asked what she though of piracy and mp3’s and the internet, she said “Yeah, I love it. I think it’s brilliant and I’ll tell you why…”. Read more at TorrentFreak.
The Verve will release Forth on August 18th/19th. The album marks thier first studio release in 11 years. The first single Love is Noise has been straming on their myspace apge this week, and is floating around the ‘nets in various forms, including the mp3 below. Enjoy.
Welcome to the first Friday Mixtape of summer! Rather, welcome to summer- today being the first day of the season, even though it feels long overdue. Things in the ATL have been heated up for a few weeks now, and some good, upbeat music is necessary for those windows-down evening drives, or a day by the pools. So, I’ve tried to keep this week’s mix a little more up-tempo… tried. So it’s not exactly a summer-theme or anything, but just a small change of pace from what I’ve been including on the mixtapes lately.
If you’re looking for a summer mix though, a couple of my fellow music bloggers have done just that. Check out these posts for their summer mixtapes:
Stereogum posted some great videos from the Bonaroo festival performance by Ben Folds playing some new material off a forthcoming album. The videos are quality, and sound seems like it’s off the boards. You can see more at Stereogum.
Kanye played Bonaroo…woo. But, he didn’t get started at 2:30am as planned. Instead, he started two hours late because of the complex stage setup he’s got. While the crowd waited (and drank lots of caffeine), they also booed him, and left some nice tags about. See more pix at AnimalNewYork.com.
Alrighty, time for this week’s mix. I have to admit the difficulty I had this week in finding tracks that I thought worthy of posting- that is, until my friend in Houston gave me a link to her Pandora bookmarks. With that helper, I had a complete mixtape. So, everyone thank Mel for saving the Friday Mixtape this week. Ya know, I always welcome suggestions, and I almost never bash anything I don’t like- so there’s no risk in sending me something from your band, or your friend’s band, or a band you heard once… send it to me at the address under “Contact SquirrelFood”. Yep, that’s new email addy for submission, questions, dates… whatever! I’ll try to remember to check it frequently.
Following up on a previous post about a lawsuit in which Universal Music tried to sue Troy Augusto for selling promo CDs on eBay, a U.S. District Judge in LA ruled this week that Universal Music Group gave up ownership of the CDs when it mailed them to Augusto. Therefore, the first sale doctrine holds, and Augusto was within his rights to sell the discs.
You can follow the case, in which Augusto is represented by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, on the EFF’s website.
