Friday Mixtape Volume 241
Jamie Kohns on October 10th, 2008
Ah, TGIF, no wait- TAKMBIAFM (Thank an All-Knowing Mythical Being It’s Another Friday Mixtape)! I know it’s not quite as catchy or easy-to-remember as TGIF, but it suits my mood better.
This week, I present for your approval ten tracks that I’ve hand-culled from hundreds I’ve heard this week. I’ve got Captain and Iron & Wine and more from Tahiti 80 (you’ll have to go all the way back to SFFMv80 to see their first appearance here). New stuff from a guy named Daniel Martin Moore, who might be Sub Pop’s latest success (he’s gooood) and a former Aussie Idol, Lisa Mitchel, who’s like real young (just 18), but making some decent music. There’s another young act (this one from the UK), called “Official Secrets Act” that’s showing potential as well, plus a new song from The Decemberists that I’m not entirely convinced is as good as previous work, but we’ll see. Catfish Heaven is the one of the worst names for a band, but their new album is pretty great, and they’re from Chicago so they’re cool. Finally, I don’t care what you think about his hair, or status as a “sex symbol”, or that he’s Welsh- Tom Jones’ new song is great! Anyway, enjoy this week’s mix, I’ll be back after the weekend.
Tracklisting:
Captain - Echoes Of Fashion
Catfish Haven - Devastator

After decades of delays (well, nearly), the (hopefully) final project from Guns N’ Roses will be in stores just in time for the holiday gift buying rush (by a copy fro grandma)! Chinese Democracy will appear on shelves November 23, and will probably stay on those shelves unsold until being sent to the great CD graveyard.
